Member Name: Vamsky
What I like to collect: Primarily Morgans, but I do have a few Peace dollars
Favorite VAMs: 1878 8TF VAM 9 ... just because it was the first! 1878, 1880, 1888, 1891, 1900 and 1921 are my current focus areas.
About Me - I was commissioned a 2Lt in the USAF in 1975 and spent the next 26 years seeing the world. I retired in 2001 and couldn't stray far from the work, plus the wife started a business and we couldn't uproot. I am still working for the military as a civilian contractor. I grew up in the great state of Oregon and long to return, but that probably won't happen. My dad started us collecting LWC back in the 50's. He would give us $5 a week to go to local merchants asking for silver coins from the cash register older than 1940. We could convert that $5 rather quickly back then. Mercury dimes, SLQ's, Walker Halves, and even Morgan and Peace dollars were readily available (merchants loved getting rid of the dollars). Most were well circulated and we were only focused on the key dates. Of course back then Leroy and George had not begun their work, so I had no idea of the vast die varieties to look for. I wish I could do it all over again armed with knowledge (grin).
My other passions are hunting/fishing/golfing and jumping on my retirement present (Harley) when the weather cooperates. I haven't met other Vammers from the board and would love to do so, ah the stories we could share.
