1921-P VAM-3R1 Die Break Ribbon, Scribbling Die Scratches #21

3R1 IV 1 D2a (Die Break Ribbon, Scribbling Die Scratches #21) (189) I-2 R-6
Obverse IV 1 - Small die chip at bottom of sixth right star left point.
Reverse D2a - Diagonal die crack thru middle of lower right wreath ribbon with small die chips. Fine die scratches in various directions on over polished tail feathers around eagle’s right leg, between eagle's left wing and body and in middle of eagle's left wing.
Die marker - Short diagonal die scratch between upper two tail feathers.
1 - January 2008: VAM-3R is now divided into the VAM-3R1 and VAM-3R2 after discovery that VAMs 3BT1 and 3BT2 (eliminated) are actually this variety.
2 - 2010 - VAM-3R3 Discovery
The original VAM 3R discovery coin from 2004 is now classified as VAM 3R3. (JB)
3 - The die chip at star 6 is not present for 3R1.

The VAM-3R has some great scribbling scratches as well (formerly also listed as 21-P VAM-3BT). The vertical scratch in the protected area to the left of the right leg really pops out on this variety when viewed in person:

Fun die crack from the nose to the third left star. The coin in this photo is a die state for which the die chip at sixth right star has not yet formed.
This die crack from the nose becomes more pronounced in later die states.
