1921-P VAM-3F Pitted AR in DOLLAR

Discovered by Martin Field, December 1979. Discovery 2006, Revised 2009
This coin is a Hot 50 Morgan VAM.
3F (revised) IV 1 D2a (Pitted Reverse, Die Gouge in Wing) (189) I-3 R-6
Obverse IV 1 - Two different dies used, one with faintly doubled nose profile.
Reverse D2a - Pitted die around lower right wreath and AR in DOLLAR Late die state coins have a crack through the 2nd left star into the neck. VAM-3F also has a on some specimens a heavy horizontal die gouge through the Eagle's lower bottom of eagle's right wing. Thanks to Paul Pierce for pointing this out! Some coins have a doubled profile along Liberty's nose. This difference has not yet been recognized as two separate VAMs. (Formerly VAM 3K.)
COMMENTS: This VAM has recently been further categorized into the 1921-P VAM-3F1, 1921-P VAM-3F2, 1921-P VAM-3F3 and 1921-P VAM-3F4. The VAM-3F3 includes possible denticle impressions. VAM-3F4 has a radial die crack from the R in AMERICA to the denticles.

The 21-P VAM-3F also features some of the most unique scribbling die scratches known. These scribbles are "out of place" and centered more towards the torso of the eagle rather than towards the empty spot to the right of the left leg:

Late die state coins of one of the obverses have a crack through the 2nd left star into the neck.

Certain stages of the VAM-3F also have a horizontal die gouge through the Eagle's lower right wing. Thanks to Paul Pierce for pointing this out!

The VAM-3F has this second obverse that shows a small die scratch of some sort between the rim and the sixth left star. Please note that this variety does not have the strongly doubled profile as in the coin imaged just above:

The LDS of this "star scratch" obverse shows different obverse die cracks from the obverse cracks shown in the other obverse four photos above.
