3C2 (revised) IV 1 • D2a (Pitted Reverse LL & UN, Doubled Lower Rt Reverse, Die Break LUR & Wing Tip) (189) I-2 R-6
Obverse IV1 - Die crack through PLUR with branch crack over to front of Liberty head band with displaced field break. Occures before clashed dies.
Reverse D2a - Die crack at top of AMERIC over the top of eagle’s left wing with displaced field break above wing tip after die clash.
1- 1921-P VAM-3C3 discovered in 2007 is an earlier clashed die state of this die pair. By the time the field break above the wing tip has become displaced, the partial double incuse t of Trust from the die clash event is weaker, but visible under magnification. Once the break at the wing tip has displaced, it is VAM-3C2. This is a great variety with a lot going on. Listed in VAMView 6th Edition as a Hot 50 variety due to Pitted Reverse.
