1898-S VAM-8 Near Date, S Tilted Right

Discovered by Jay Galst, February 1980.
8 III2 5 - C3d (Near Date, S Tilted Right) (188) I-2 R-3
Obverse III2 5 - Date set further left than normal.
Reverse C3d - Mint mark tilted slightly to the right.

  1. This coin was struck after the 1898-S VAM 8A - from the same dies that were well reworked. On the VAM 8 it is really hard to tell the die "had" a repunched second 8.
