1889-P VAM-17 Far Date, Doubled 18
Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, September 1981.
17 III2 17 • C3a (Far Date, Doubled 18) (189) I-2 R-3
Obverse III2 17 - 1 double as short spike below upper crossbar. 8 doubled at top inside of upper loop. Date set further right than normal.
Comments:
- Aside from the many PUPs you will find on the LFCP's below, please note there are two heavy polish lines in the hair void just above the third right star. This is the only coin is this series that have this PUP, I refer to them as railroad tracks. (Ron Hagler)
- Later die stages show heavy die wear, which hides the doubled 18, and doubling on the ear. There are some lines in the lower cotton leaves that still show on these coins that can be used for identification.
