1888-P VAM-17 Die Chips in 8's, Doubled Rerverse

Discovered by Martin Field, August 1982..
17 III2 1 - C3g (Die chips in 8's, Doubled Reverse) (189) I-2 R-3
Obverse III2 1 -Die chips in lower loops of first and third 8's.
Reverse C3g - Doubled outside of left and right wreaths, IN GOD WE TRUST, MERICA, and E-AR.

Later die stage show a light crack between the tip of the bust and the 1.

The strongest extra metal is in the first 8. Extra metal in the other 8s fades away with die wear.

This scratch pattern in the R of LIBERTY is visible in later die stages.

Scratches in the wing-neck gap are rather faint.

Nothing exciting in or around the wreath bow.
