1887-P VAM-25A Doubled Right Stars, Hair, D With Tail

Discovered by A. George Mallis, July 1964. May 2010, Revision from 1A to 25A by Scott Hamilton. Formerly VAM-1A (VAM-1A retains historical designation)
This coin is a Top 100 Morgan VAM.
25A III2 24 - C3a (Doubled Right Stars, Hair, D with tail) (189) I-3 R-6
Reverse C3a- Die break at lower right outside on D of DOLLAR to form a tail. (Formerly VAM-1A, but still used.)

Comments:
1. Later die state of VAM-25 where an exciting die break forms as a small lump of metal on the bottom of the D of DOLLAR. Part of the Top 100 set, and recently featured in VamView Issue #2, the Donkey Tail is a coin even non-vam collectors want to own. It is possible to cherry pick these coins and they are often found in VF-XF condition. AU coins are very tough to find. Mint state Donkey Tails are truly ultra rare!

The variety may also prove to be a weak overdate. A small raised curved area may be seen
to the right of the base of the digit 7 on all well preserved examples
