Discovered by Guy Messing, May 1974. Revision by Mark Kimpton, January 2004. Revised 2015
This coin is a Top 100 Morgan VAM.
1A(revised) III2 1 · C3a (Line in 6, Slightly Doubled Ear) (189) I-2 R-4
Obverse III2 1– Thick horizontal line curving down at left end in lower inside of upper loop of 6. Ear very slightly doubled at right inside.
Die marker - Vertical polishing line at left end of Phyrtgian cap ribbon.
1. The 6 in the date has line above the circular portion of the 6. This is probably a die gouge, but could possibly be a re-punched digit. Be careful when attributing this VAM as some dies have polish in the same area where the line exists. I've seen coins in holders labeled VAM-1A that are most definitely not. Check the attribution yourself to be sure!
2. The former VAM 1A Die 2 is now VAM-1M
