1885-S VAM-7A Doubled Date, Die Flake Left Wreath

7A III2-6 · C3a (Doubled Date, Die Flake Left Wreath) (187) I-2 R-6
Reverse C3a– Die flake on left wreath opposite NI of UNITED.

1. The VAM-7/7A III2-6 obverse has a date that is doubled mildly on the tops of all digits.
2. Large die flake in left wreath as in VAM-1A.

The author has seen 9 distinct PCGS MS65 and 2 distinct NGC MS65 VAM-7A and none higher. This variety has been observed in all uncirculated grades from MS62 through MS65. Leroy Van Allen designated the variety with rarity R-6. Of the hundreds of this date reviewed, the representation of this variety appears between 2% and 3%. The condition census is solid MS65.
