1885-P VAM-9E Far Date, Clashed Obverse n
Discovered by C. Logan McKechnie in November 2011
9E III2 9 - C3a (Far Date, Clashed Obverse n,) (?) I-2 R-5
Obverse lll2 9 - Date at left side of far date lateral position. Clashed die with faint partial incuse n of In from reverse showing at Liberty head neck edge. Die clash higher than VAMs 9C & 9D. Some hubbing liquid circles at back of Phrygian cap.
Die Marker - Short horizontal die scratch at hair edge below ear.
Reverse C3a -
Die Marker - Short die gouge at top left of D in DOLLAR.
1- The 4 specimens I have only 1 has a tic of letter transfer, so the other three are still considered VAM-9's and Unofficial VAM-9.2,
2- The gouge at the top left of the D in DOLLAR may be a planchet flaw. It has been absent from a few coins of later die stages than the discovery coin.
3- This coin has found a Home in VAM-9E BUT- it must have actual letter transfer, the transfer of letter did not last long,
and only visible on Early specimens of this stage
4- The circular Die Impression is very difficult to see so a nice tilt with good light is needed
