VAM-4 is the key variety of the date and the 1885-CC representation in the Hot-50 list. The dies clashed twice on a dashed 8 die. This was not a clash of VAM-2 so presumably an unclashed state of this pair may exist out there. In any event, the variety is easily identified by the thick doubled dash beneath the second 8 of the date.
The double neck/wing clashes are easily seen on all examples. There is a faint n clash at the neck. There appears to be a faint M clash on the reverse of some examples. Not mentioned in the VAM book is the clash of the upper part of the second L of DOLLAR at the base of the S in PLURIBUS.
Another overlooked general feature of the variety are the two long scratches around RIB. Looking at a single piece, they are probably dismissed as scratches on the coin. However, these are die scratches that are evident on all observed VAM-4 specimens.
