1884-P VAM-8 Far Date
Discovered by Oscar Simpson, April 1977.

Obverse III28 - Date set further right than normal.
Reverse C3a -
1. Since VAM numbers are assigned by die classification, and not just by die pairing, multiple die pairings may exist.
2. Note that this variety is a VAM that is notorious for representing a number of distinctly different die pairs. You cannot always depend on cracks therefore.
LVA Plate Photos:
One specimen has been found showing "water spots" on the portrait, similar to those seen on 1881 VAM 17 and 1885 VAM 9E. Leroy refrained fro listing it as a separate variety until another specimen can be locating corroborating the water spots being on the die rather than being a striking issue. The spots are shown below, as are other die markers that are definitely on the die. If you have a coin with both the water spots shown and the other markers, then it should be seen by Leroy Van Allen.
