1883-P VAM-5 Doubled 1-3, High 8, Possible 1 Base Between 1 & 8

Discovered by M aurice Dubreuil, February 1975. Revised 2013.
5(revised) III25 ∙ C3a (Doubled 1-3, High 8, Possible 1 Base Between 1 & 8)(180) I-4 R-5
Obverse III25 – Left 8 doubled at lower left inside and right outside of upper loop 3. 3 slightly doubled at bottom inside of lower loop. Right 8 set higher than other numerals. Short horizontal dash below and between 1 and 8. Possible MPD from left base of 1 similar to 1883-P VAM-21 with base dash between 18. No need to mark space between 18, so not usual dash below right 8.

The doubling on the 3 is strongest as a notch inside the botton of the lower loop.

The ear has some distinctive polish lines.

The reverse can be positively attributed by the polish die scratch out from the eagle's lower beak. Might not be on all specimens though.
