1881-P VAM-28 Doubled 18 & Ear

III2 28- C3a (Doubled 18 & Ear) (180) I-2 R-5
Obverse III2 28 - Doubled 18 with 1 at top right of vertical shaft and left 8 at top right outside of upper loop. Right 1 has surface break on vertical shaft. Slightly doubled ear at right inside.
Die marker - Breaks on 1 vertical shaft.

Comments:
1. Please note that the "Die marker - Breaks on 1 vertical shaft" does not always show - even on MS63 pieces (see photo below)

Note the lack of the die marker on the 1. This was compared with the discovery piece side by side and it is the same die pair.

Note the small defect in the top of the E - present on both the discovery piece and the matching specimen.

Small die gouge below the lower cotton boll.

Tiny die gouge - well protected location!

Tiny die polish lines are about all we get for die markers on this plain Jane" reverse."
