1881-O VAM-11 Spike in 8, O/O Left

Discovered by Guy Messing, July 1976.
11 (revised)III2 1 - C3i (Spike in 8, O/O Left) (176) I-3 R-3
Obverse III2 1 - Normal die with Die chip in top left of first 8.
Reverse C3i - II O mint mark centered, upright and set slightly to left and doubled slightly on the left inside as a thin vertical line. Slightly doubled TATES OF AMER and top of wreath towards rim.

  1. This shares a reverse with VAM 60. VAM 11 is the later die stage with a more worn die, although no die cracks to speak of.
  2. There appear two be two additional obverses paired with this reverse (three excluding VAM 60) that require further investigation.
