1880-O VAM-2 Medium O

Discovered by Howard Newcomb, February 1913.
2 III2 1 - C3b (Medium O) (176) I-2 R-2
Reverse C3b- Normal die of C3 type with medium, tall, oval shaped, II O mint mark centered and upright.

Comments:
1. The photographs below show the normal placement of the date and the medium, tall mintmark. [The photos are also a warning for those who shop on the internet: lighting makes it appear the date, the mintmark and other elements are doubled. They are not.]
2. At least FOUR different die pairing of VAM-2 exist, all attributed by Leroy Van Allen. Below are 3 examples.
3. Third example attributed by LVA 10/17/2007
