1879 S VAM-98
Discovery 2016, Brian Raines
98 II 2 49 - C3am (Doubled 1, Engraved Wreath Leaves) (183) I-2 R-5
Obverse III 2 49 - Slightly doubled 1 below upper crossbar. Frostiness in Liberty head detail on EDS.
Die marker - Vertical polishing line in top of T in Liberty.
Reverse C3am - Engraving to strengthen leaves above ON of ONE.
1879s v98/8A I noticed this coin because of the unusual frosting in the center of the obverse die. the "frosting" appears darker. This is an overpolished obverse die and it appears the "frosting" was added to fill in missing details, polished off in attempt to reduce relief, or to polish our some die defect. Very similar in effect to 1879s v62A. (BR)
