1879-S VAM-43 PAF, Doubled Date, Engraved Wing Feather

Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, December 1992.
This is a Reverse of '78 (PAF) coin and a Top 100* VAM variety.
43 III2 21 · B2i (PAF, Doubled Date, Engraved Wing Feather) (184) I-4 R-6
Obverse III2 21 – Closed 9. Entire date is doubled. 1 is strongly doubled at top left and right of lower crossbar. 8 doubled at lower right inside of lower loop. 7 slightly doubled below upper crossbar. 9 slightly doubled at bottom inside of lower loop.
Die marker- Diagonal polishing line below 1 at top of denticles.
Reverse B2i – R in trust not broken. Feather engraved between eagle’s right wing and leg.
Die marker- Diagonal polishing line in middle of eagle’s left wing. Intermediate die state.

Comments:
1. This reverse die was used on VAM-43, VAM-50, VAM-51, VAM-52, and VAM-67. VAM-4, VAM-23, VAM-25, VAM-43, VAM-50, VAM-51, VAM-52, and VAM-56 all have an unbroken R in TRUST.
