1879-S VAM-15 Doubled 18 and S/S
Discovered by Ted Eiben, June 1972. Revision May 2010 by Terry Wallace.
15 (revised) III2 8 ∙ C3f (Doubled 18 and S/S, Die chips below 18) (185) I-2 R-3
Obverse III2 8 – 1 in date doubled at top left and right of lower crossbar. First 8 doubled to top right of lower loop. Open 9 variety. Die Chips above 5 denticle spaces below 18 as in VAM 73 but later die state.
Reverse C3f – Filled IV S mint mark with top serif doubled on lower right side and slightly at very bottom. Fine polishing lines on early Proof Like die states.
1- This obverse die was used on VAM-15, VAM-20 and VAM-73.
2- This reverse die was used on VAM-15, VAM-17, and VAM-54.
3- There are heavy polish marks as you see in the MM PLATE all over the Reverse especially stronger around the devices.
