1879-O VAM-25 Doubled Date, Large O
Discovered by Martin Field, October 1983.
25 III2 18 ∙ C3b (Doubled Date, Large O) (176) I-2 R-3
Obverse III2 18 – All digits slightly doubled in date. 1 doubled slightly on right side of vertical crossbar. 8 doubled slightly at top outside of upper loop and top right inside of lower loop. 7 doubled at very top and slightly on lower right side of vertical shaft. 9 doubled at left outside of both loops.
Reverse C3b – Normal die of C3 type with large IV O centered mint mark.
1. This is really easily mistaken for the 1879-O V14. I have been fortunate enough to buy the Martin Field discovery piece and have pictures below as well as under the VAM14 listing.
