1878-S VAM-8 Engraved Wing Feather

This coin is a Top 30 1878-S Variety.

Obverse II 1– Die 1– Curved die scratch in front of forehead and horizontal die scratch between ends of lower two cotton leaves. Fourth right star broken. Same die as VAM-28.
Die 2– Tiny die chip below Phrygian cap fold. Fourth right star broken. Same die as some 1878-S VAM-47 Die 1.
Reverse B2k– Feather engraved between eagle’s right wing and leg. Engraved bars between eagle’s right wing and body plus engraved patch in middle of eagle’s right wing on earlier die states. R in Trust not broken. Die chip on lower right serif of E in UNITED on later obverse die-1 die states and on all obverse die-2 die states (all die 2 are VAM 8A). Both wings over polished in center with obverse die-2.
