1878-S VAM-44 Engraved Wing Feather, Doubled LIBERTY Left
Discovered by Martin Field, August 1980.
44(revised) II 11 · B2j (Engraved Wing Feather, Doubled LIBERTY Left) (184) I-2 R-4
Obverse II11- LIBERTY doubled left. P in PLURIBUS has bulge at top right outside. L & R slightly doubled on left side and bottom of B crossbar is thin. Star 4 right broken.
Reverse B2j - Smooth feather engraved between eagle’s right wing and leg. Engraving lines are present between eagle’s right wing and body. R in Trust is broken.
- VAM-14 Obverse paired with VAM 6 Reverse.
- The engraved feather looks very similar to the B2aj reverse of VAM 52 and VAM 79, but contains much more engraving higher up where the wing meets the breast.
