1878-P VAM-41B 7 TF, Clashed Obverse n
Discovered September 2003 by Mark Kimpton
This coin is a Top 100 and a WOW! Morgan VAM.
41B II 2 · B/Ak (7 TF, Clashed Obverse n) (180) I-5 R-6
Obverse II 2- Small die gouge line to right of lower cotton leaf of top two. Clashed die with partial incuse n of In from reverse showing next to Liberty head neck. Later die state of VAM-41 but reported later than VAM-41A.
1. This coin is basically the VAM-41 but with the clashing and no additional polishing. Thus, the 7/7 TF feature remains on the VAM-41B. The VAM-41A and VAM-41C are related as well, but occurred after major die polishing and have the 7/4 TF feature. It is a fantastic progression to follow, but the suffix letters are not in chronological order of die life stage due to being discovered out of order. This coin qualifies as a Top 100 VAM variety, since the VAM-41 is Top 100 for 7/7 tailfeathers and VAM-41B shares the same tailfeathers.
