187 (revised) II 5 B2c (Doubled R, 878) (193) I-5 R-4
Obverse II 5 -Same as II I, except doubled LURIBUS in PLURIBUS and UN in UNUM. R strongly doubled at top, middle and lower right side. Bottom serif of N strongly doubled at top left. Two spikes below eyelid front. Slightly doubled 878 with both 8's at top left inside of upper loop and 7 at upper right outside. Doubled wheat kernels and right bent wheat leaf doubled on right side. Phrygian cap doubled at top. Hair slightly doubled at rear below cap.
1. Reverse :(broken R)
2. Reverse: is shared with v166
3. Spectacular broken 'R' of 'PLURIBUS. Tougher to locate than realized, and exceedingly scarce in Mint State. Although there are several doubled and tripled 'Rs with the 7TF reverse, VAM-187 stands out because of the shift in doubling. Has the B2C reverse, identified by the broken r in 'trust'.

This is an unmistakable variety. The remarkably doubled R in PLURIBUS is very unique and is the only thing necessary to attribute the coin, once you have determined the coin has a broken R in TRUST on the reverse.
The P in PLURIBUS is doubled but the “feet” are basically normal. It will not be mistaken for the 166.
The L in PLURIBUS is doubled strongly in the center. It will not be mistaken for the 166.
The N in UNUM is doubled strongly in the center. It will not be mistaken for the 166.
