1878-P VAM-142 Doubled 878

Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, December 1965.
142 II/I 22 - B2b (Doubled 878) (179) I-3 R-4
Obverse II/I 22 - Doubled LIBERTY shifted left; doubled P,R,U,U, and M in PLURIBUS UNUM; doubled top of 878 in date and right side of 7 vertical shaft. All left and right stars slightly doubled. EDS of this variety is 2-sided PL. The middle die state has noticeable stray reverse polish lines.
Reverse B2b - Same as B2a, but with hub break fill which leaves open the upper part of o of God.

1. VAM-196 and 142 share the same obverse.
