Discovered May 2009. Revised 6/2011
15E(revised)IV1*D21(DBLED STATES OF, Die Break S, Clashed Obv. I & UST, Rev. M) (189) I-3 R-6
Obverse IV 1 - Die 3 - Die Marker-Curved vertical polishing line inside ear. Clashed die with partial incuse I of IN from reverse showing next to Liberty head neck and partial incuse UST of TRUST from reverse showing in right hair vee of lower hair edge. Later die states shows faint polished partial incuse I at neck. Same die as VAM 1B, earlier die state.
Reverse D2 1 - Clashed die with faint left leg and space below of initial M from obverse showing above o in God. Polishing lines and die break in lower right loop of right S in STATES weak from die wear. (Formerly VAM-15A)
Comments:
1- This VAM, the newest discovery in the dynamic 21-S VAM-15 series, boasts the third different obverse paired with this reverse. This is a Bean Bottom S variety. Make sure to check all of the die stages of the 1921-S VAM-15 to be sure you have a correct attribution:1921-S VAM-15A, 1921-S VAM-15B, 1921-S VAM-15C, 1921-S VAM-15D, 1921-S VAM-15E.
2- Update February 2013: It turns out that this third obverse became the famous "Thornhead" obverse of the 1921-S VAM-1B series, paired with a new reverse.
3 - There is an EDS of this I Clashed die that is bold and deeply clashed, and then you have the post polished version where the I clash is far less visible.

The new obverse of course has different die polishing in LIBERTY from the previous obverses:

Reverse die markers:
Great reverse clashed "acorn" above the o in God. Leroy notes, "...also has part of M leg as spike.":

The slam dunk vertical die scratch on the eagle, which begins with the 1921-S VAM-15C and continues with the 1921-S VAM-15D, has begun to fade a bit but is still easy to pick out:

You can see the new clash here (line from wing to between I and n). You can also see what may be the remnants of the previous clash from the 1921-S VAM-15D (line from wing to n), although it may be from another intermediate clash, as this clash line seems just a hair off of the one from the 15D:

The Bean Bottom S feature is so faded from die wear that it's hardly distinguishable:
