Used for both proof and business strikes
3BV IV - D2a (Scribbling Die Scratches #23) I-2 R-5
Reverse D2a - Fine die scratches in various directions on over polished tail feathers around eagle's right leg, between eagle's left wing and body and in middle of both wings. Die marker - Single heavy diagonal polishing line inside wreath bow.
Comments:
1- December 2008 update: The coin in these photos is the VAM-3BV discovery coin, which turns out to be a business strike of the first documented D2 (16-berry) proof dies. The proof example is in the Smithsonian collection in Washington D.C. and was discovered by Jack Lee. See VAMview 14 for more details.
2- Update April 27, 2012: Same dies as 1921-P VAM-3BV, but the plate coins for each show both common and unique scribbles to each variety. More investigation to come.
