If you have what looks like a VAM-1L early die state, be sure to check the diagnostic cracks on the [[1921-D VAM-1AR|VAM-1AR]] to be certain of the attribution. One key to distinguishing a VAM-1L coin from [[1921-D VAM-1AR|VAM-1AR]] is the slightly upward curving crack between the IC of AMERICA.<br />

Reverse D2a– Small die break from the top left of M in AMERICA extending to left halfway to A top.
Fine die scratches in various directions on over polished tail feathers around eagle’s right leg, between eagle’s left wing and body and in middle of both wings. Die marker - Long vertical die scratch in middle of tail feathers between eagle's legs.

Comments:
1. The VAM-1L variety has one of the nicer breaks in the 1921-D grouping. There is a significant die break emerging from the top left side of the M in AMERICA, running to the left toward the neighboring A. Look at the size of the break coming off the M!
