1921-D VAM-1EC Scribbling Die Scratches #66

Discovered November 2007. Revised 2010
3B3 IV1 - D2a (Scribbling Die Scratches #66) (189) I-2 R-5
Obverse IV1 - Very slightly tripled stars and date towards rim. Small bean shaped die chip at bottom inside of lower loop of S in PLURIBUS.
Reverse D2a - Fine die scratches in various directions on over polished tail feathers around eagle’s right leg. Die marker- Vertical die scratch on upper tail feathers on left side.
1- Scribbling scratches varieties are numerous and difficult to photograph. Many existing varieties include scribbling scratches features on the tailfeathers in addition to their primary features (pick up points). When possible, we will attempt to show non-scribbling scratches die features to help with attribution. Some of the new scribbling scratches varieties have been eliminated as early die states of known VAMs for which the die breaks, etc. have not yet formed, and more will likely follow.
2- Update March 2010: This variety is the first to be found with a Bean Bottom S feature on the obverse, showing a tiny bean in the S of PLURIBUS. Now we have a new location to search for beans! See Bean Bottom S for more information.

This scribbles VAM is a great candidate for potential elimination. It features nice die cracks, which may be listed under a different VAM number:
