'''This next set of LFCP photos is more akin to the date photos that Logan McKechnie placed on the page back in 2009. It has some interesting features that include the three strong gouges into the field from the top wheat kernel. In all of the messaging concerning the 1898-P VAMs, there is no mention of this feature in any post. This set is from the [[http://coins.ha.com/us-coins/?ic=Task-coins-us-121913 Heritage Auctions]].'''<br />

1898-P VAM-1 Open 9

1 III2 1-C3a (Open 9) (189) I-1, R-2
Obverse III2-1 - Normal Die of III2 type with open 9
Reverse C3a - Normal die of C3 type.

Comments:
1. Since VAM numbers are assigned by die classification, and not just by die pairing, multiple die pairings may exist.
2. The 'open 9' can really look 'closed' to the naked eye.--CLM
