Discovery January 2021. Dedicated to Ron Gapa. R.I.P. my friend.
III2 5 - C 3a (Far Date, Pitted Obverse, Reverse of VAMs 23, 7A, 7B) (190) I-2 R-5
Obverse IIIII 2 5- Date set at left edge of far date at denticle space. No doubling on ear. Severe fine die pitting on somewhat later die state all over Liberty head but not in fields, likely rusted die. Has hub polishing lines below cap bottom and several lines in hair plus dot on R right leg of LIBERTY that also appears on VAMs 7A, 7B, 60 & likely others.
Die marker - Fine polishing lines at top and bottom inside of ear. Die likely retired early because of severe rust pitting.
Reverse C3a- Same die as VAM 23, 23A & 23B, 7A, 7B1 and 7B2 but earliest die state and no die clash marks present.
Die marker - Fine die polishing lines at wing-neck gap.
1. Per LVA; the severe die pitting occurs in the latter die state (LDS).
