1889-P VAM-30 Doubled Ear
Discovered by Brent Fogelberg, Sept. 2000. Revised by C. Logan McKechnie September 2002. Revised by D_E Codner, B. Fogelberg & J. Roberts, September 23, 2012.
30 (revised) III2 27 C3a (Doubled Ear) (190) I-2 R-5
Obverse III2 27- Ear slightly doubled at right inside, top left inside and bottom outside. Date slightly left of normal position.
Diagnostics - Single thin diagonal polishing line at lower right edge of right cotton boll. Slight doubled left edges of two hair curls behind jaw. Late die state shows extreme wear with faint vertical ridges in front of Liberty head neck (Former VAM 51).
Reverse C3a - Slight doubling of lower arrow shaft.
Comments:
1. Be aware that the doubled ear of the VAM 30 is an "Evil Mimic" with the VAM-15, as pointed out by John Roberts user:vampicker and confirmed by Mr. Leroy Van Allen. Check your date placement to make sure of which variety you actually have.

The photos below are from the LDS of the VAM 30 (Formerly VAM 51)
Sunken areas around many of the obverse elements may be found on the late die state of VAM-30
LDS: Heavy vertical ridges in field, likely caused by a phenomenon associated with die clashing known as "instantaneous degradation".
