1889-P VAM-23A Slanted Date, Clashed Obverse In & st

Discovered by John Daino & Jeff Oxman, October 1997.
This coin is a Hot 50 Morgan VAM.
23A III221 · C3a (Slanted Date, Clashed Obverse In & st) (190) I-5 R-7
Obverse III221– Very heavily clashed die with bold incuse n and partial incuse I of In from reverse showing next to Liberty head neck and partial incuse st of Trust from reverse showing in right hair vee of lower hair edge. Deepest clashed In known and first die reported with clashed letter other than E.

Comments:
1. Only 7 have been reported - Jeff Oxman's discovery piece (although Jeff is not listed as the finder), a cleaned AU/XF coin in a net graded ANACS holder, a raw coin found by C. Logan McKechnie in 2005 and was then graded AU58 PL by ANACS and later crossed to a PCGS AU58 [The coin is in the 'California' collection and expected to remain there.] and an NGC AU58 (now PCGS AU58) found in an old coin album by Dwight Brown (July, 2007). The fifth was reported on VAMWorld by remmy (July, 2013). It appears to be BU. The sixth found raw (June, 2014) now in PCGS 63. The 7th one was found by PacificWR at a B&M coin gallery on 9/3/2020 and will be sent in to be graded at PCGS.
