1889-O VAM-9 O Set High

Discovered by Melvin Carmichael, August 1951. Revised 2009. Revised 2012.
9 (revised) III2 1 - C3f (O Set High) (181) I-2 R-4
Obverse III2 1 - Open 9. Some specimens show die chip between loops of both 8's on right side. Die 2 - Radial die crack between B & U in PLURIBUS. EDS of VAM-1A.
Reverse C3f - III O mint mark set upright and high.
Die 1 - Die marker - Diagonal polishing lines next to eagle's left leg. Pitting on eagle.
Die 2 - EDS of VAM-1A with die cracks that match in legend. 1889-O VAM-9 Die-2 Die #2 O Set High
Note: Die 1 occurs with rotated reverse of 25-47 CW.
Revision 2012: Die 2 added shares Obv with VAM 1A1 with break at BU of PLURIBUS, but no clashing yet, and no clashed E. Since VAM 1A1 has been used for 40+ years, Leroy decided to make this share Obv VAM-9 Die 2.
Comments:
1- Since VAM numbers are assigned by die classification, and not just by die pairing, multiple die pairings may exist.
