'''1.''' VAM-1D appears to have a MPD in the denticles and has been submitted. However it was rejected because it was between 1 set of denticles, It needs to be between 2 separate set of denticles. Perhaps an early die state may show it between 2 sets of denticles.<br />

1887-P VAM-1D Spiked Bottom of Left Wing

Discovered by C. Logan McKechnie December 2004.
1D III2 1 · C3a (Spiked Bottom of Left Wing) ( ? ) I-2 R-5
Reverse C3a – Short horizontal die gouge spike from bottom of eagle’s left wing.

Comments:

  1. VAM 1D may appear to have a misplaced date (MPD) in the denticles, but review of an early die state coin has shown that this is not the case.
  2. Very late die stages do not have the spike at wing due to die wear. These also show a doubled ear on the right inside, again due to die erosion.
