1886-O VAM-20 Doubled Ear

Discovered 2009. Revised 2019.
20 III2 13-C3a (Doubled Ear) (181) I-2 R-5
Obverse III2 13- Ear slightly doubled at right inside. Date in normal lateral position.
Die marker - Long die polishing line from right side of upper cotton leaf over to cap fold.

Reverse C3a -
Die marker - Die polishing line at bottom of upper tail feathers.

1. Since VAM numbers are assigned by die classification, and not just by die pairing, multiple die pairings may exist.
2. Leroy writes New VAM 20. Yes, has unlisted slightly dbld ear with date in normal lateral position. Vam 17 has doubled ear but with far date. O m/m very slightly set to left but still within normal tolerance of position guide on pg 116 in VAM book. There is a shadow outline at bottom of date digits between date and denticles from die sliding sideways into the denticles below date causing surface metal flow below date digits. Denticles above RIBUS aren't pushed in.
3. Some later die states have a distinct obverse crack starting under the B in Pluribus, through the cap fold and into the second U in Unum (seen in LFCP below).
