Discovered by George Mallis, June 1965.
3 III23 · C3b (Dash Under 8, Doubled 8, Slanted CC) (178) I-2 R-3
Obverse III23 - Dash under second 8 in date. First 8 doubled at top inside of lower loop and on surface at top left and right inside of lower loop and lower left inside of upper loop. Some specimens show only a dot left of dash. Heavy polishing lines in hair around ear.
Reverse C3b - Large V CC slanted with left C set high. Both C’s have polishing marks inside with left C doubled on left inside. Slight doubling of designer’s initial M and top inside of wreath bow.

  1. There is a later die stage with the clash from VAM 3A polished off the obverse that shows a die break at the front edge of Liberty's neck. The clash from VAM 3A is still somewhat visible behind Liberty's cap and on the reverse.
