Discovered by Ivan Leaman, March 1974.
14 III2 13 - C3a (Doubled Date, Gouges Eagle's Leg. Concave Obverse) (185) I-2 R-4
Obverse III2 13 - 1 doubled on right side of shaft. First 8 strongly doubled on left inside and right outside of both loops. Second 8 doubled strongly at very top and left outside of top loop and is doubled slightly at botttom left outside and top right outside of lower loop. 2 doubled at top and right outside of upper loop and on right side of bottom serif.
Reverse C3a - Normal Die of C3 type with medium IV S mint mark centered and upright.
1. This obverse shared with VAM-14 and VAM-18
2. Further research is needed - the die with the horizontal lines thru IGWT is not the same as the one with gouges at the leg. The marriage with the leg gouges is most likely correctly identified as VAM 14 in spite of the LVA plates.- vampicker
3. Later die stages have a PL obverse with aggressive polishing in the denticles, leaving almost a convex field and weak denticles.
