1882-P VAM-28 Dot 2, Possible 8 in Denticles, Gouges 1-2 Left Stars

Discovery 2011; Revised 2017
28 (revised) III2 27-C3a (Dot 2, Possible 8 in Denticles, Gouges 1-2 Left Stars) (179) I-3 R-6
Obverse III2 27 - Small raised dot on 2 surface in middle of the bottom crossbar. Possible top of 8 showing in denticle space between 8's as sharply curved bar. Five sharp top raised curved gouges at denticles 1 & 2 left stars. Ear slightly doubled at right inside on LDS.
Die marker -' Tiny die chip at top of E in LIBERTY.

1. You should see the chip in the `E` of LIBERTY, as plated for 1882-P VAM-26. The EDS VAM 28 (full coin below) is an extremely elusive variety, 3 are known in this state (as of Jan. 2013). The early state that exhibits the 5 distinct gouges has proven to be quite rare. The Mid/late states (Former VAM 1A or "Dot 2") of this variety are far easier to locate.
