1881-S VAM-1A1 Spike in Left 8, Die Chips 8's
Discovery 2017 Brent Fogelberg
1A1 III2 1- C3a (Spike in Left 8, Die Chips 8's) (?) I-2 R-5
Obverse III2 1 - Left 8 has short die chip inside upper loop at 11 o'clock. Right 8 has die flakes at bottom inside of upper loop and right inside of lower loop with tiny chips at top inside of loop of left 8.
Die marker - Long diagonal die scratch on left side of upper hair curl at forehead.
Reverse C3a -
Die marker - Polishing lines and pitting wing - neck gap.
Comments:
1. This is known with two different, but unremarkable, reverses. In the later die stage of the obverse, there is a chip between loops of the first 8 on the right side. The scratch through the hair curl is quite visible on both die stages.
