1880-S VAM-45 Doubled Date, S/S Up

Discovered by Martin Field, October 1978. Revised 2010.
45(revised) III2 30 ∙ C3r (Doubled Date, S/S Up) (188) I-2 R-4
Obverse III2 30 – Entire date is doubled. Doubled 1 on surface at lower right side of vertical shaft and top right of lower crossbar, left 8 on surface at left inside of lower loop, right 8 doubled at lower left outside of upper loop, and 0 at top left and right outside and on surface at lower right inside. Very slightly doubled Liberty head profile and top of Phrygian cap.
Reverse C3r – (Medium) IV S mint mark repunched with original showing as a curved bulge at bottom inside of upper loop and a horizontal curved line within middle of lower loop

1. This obverse shared with VAM-45, VAM-65, and VAM-91.
2. This Reverse die was used on VAM-45, VAM-49, VAM-51 and VAM-51A.
