1880-S VAM-14 Dash Under 8
Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, February 1973.
14 III2 10 ∙ C3a (Dash Under 8) (185) I-2 R-4
Obverse III2 10 – A high set and thin dash appears just below and angles slightly down to the right of the second 8. A small dot of metal is at top inside of upper loop of second 8 and upper loop is doubled at lower left outside. 0 is doubled slightly at top and bottom left side of opening.
Reverse C3a – Normal die with medium IV S mint mark.
Comments:
1. What is not noted in most of the written descriptions of the VAM 14 is the chatter or, perhaps, a MPD under the first 8.
