1880-P VAM-31 Doubled Date
Discovered by Bill Deterline, December 1977. Revised 2011
31 (revised) III2 31 ∙ C3a (Doubled Date) (180) I-2 R-3
Obverse III2 31 – Entire date doubled slightly. Doubled 1 on surface at top of upper crossbar and above bottom crossbar on left side, left 8 right inside of lower loop, right doubled slightly at lower left outside of upper loop, and 0 at left inside.
Die marker - Short polishing line in B of LIBERTY.
Reverse C3a –
Die marker - Short double die scratch on seventh outer feather from bottom of eagle's right wing and long horizontal polishing line in feathers above that.
Comments:
1. This exact reverse die is shared with VAM-31, VAM-35 and VAM-35A.
