1879-S VAM-26 Doubled 879, Thread-like Impression Eye

Discovered by Martin Field, October 1978.
26(revised) III2 12 ∙ C3a (Doubled 879, Thread-like Impression Eye) (184) I-2 R-4
Obverse III2 12 Doubled 879 in date. Slightly doubled lower left outside of 8 upper loop and top inside of lower loop with die chip between loops on left on some specimens, 7 in middle top and lower right side of shaft, 9 at left inside and outside of upper loop and left outside of lower loop. Thread-like curvy impression behind eye. Some specimens show tiny die chips on lips.
Note: especimens are known with and without die chip at 8
Reverse C3a – Normal die of C3 type with medium IV S mint mark centered and upright.
1- Die chips on Lips are NOT present on early Specimens
