1878-P VAM-7 Spiked A

Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, December 1965.
7 I2 6 - A1d (Spike A) (189) I-2 R-4
Obverse I2 6- Doubled left stars, E, PLURIBUS U, and 187. A slight rotation of hub and die between blows.
Reverse A1d- Die shows evidence of wearing out, with a scratch in the die causing spikes at the side of A in STATES and a filled center E in ONE.

1. This is an eight tailfeather variety. This variety shares the reverse A1d with VAMs 6, 7, 14-5, 14-8, and 14-19. VAMs 6 and 7 are relatively common (R-5???), but the other three are major rarities.
2. V7 does come lightly clashed and a very nicely doubled neck line
