I have a 1886 O with a rotated reverse. Is this considered to be a VAM? If so is there a VAM number.

Well, since it's a Morgan dollar, yes, it is a VAM. The question is, which one?

This one is very easy to figure out. Just keep to the basics, date position and mint mark.

Also, use the wiki's search capabilities. To search for a date with a mint mark, it must be in quotes because of the hyphen, "1886-O". You can use the word "rotated" as an additional search term and you'll get all the varieties for 1886-O that mention being rotated.

There is a very incomplete list of significantly rotated dies somewhere in the beginning of the big VAM book. It is a starting point of course.

I did an article on how to precisely measure the relative die rotation for Morgan dollars years ago. The follow-up article was supposed to be on extending them to the clash transfers. However, it might make a lot of sense to go through the series, date by date, and do a survey of the rotation amounts for each die pair where it is significant. Maybe the next pandemic will give me that time.
