Is this dbl die, doubling or strike dbl
I already looked at double die page and still cant tell, it is a 1921 P almost all of united states is doubled but the double on this T 8s extreme maybe a strike double??
Re: Is this dbl die, doubling or strike dbl
I'm going to guess that your 1921-P has a D1 reverse?
Doubling on the T especially seems to be how the D1 reverse die was made, because I've seen it on hundreds of different coins.

When in doubt... don't.
Re: Is this dbl die, doubling or strike dbl
This has 17 berries so I THINK D2 but dont quote me
Re: Is this dbl die, doubling or strike dbl
Oopps yes it is a D1
Re: Is this dbl die, doubling or strike dbl
But i didnt see any vams with doubling so I will have to dig back into the variety and look harder
Re: Is this dbl die, doubling or strike dbl
Or is it that they are so common it is a bam 1?
Re: Is this dbl die, doubling or strike dbl
IMO, the doubling is how all of the D1 dies were made, so it doesn't point to a specific VAM. Figuring out which one you have is something you still need to do. Start looking for scribbles and die cracks -- after checking to see if it's an infrequent reeding coin, of course.

Re: Is this dbl die, doubling or strike dbl
Thank you, another lesson learned on 21P, i was already going there, much appreciated
Re: Is this dbl die, doubling or strike dbl
So im zeroing in I think, it is one of the necklace varieties, 5 dashes so ots less than the full 49 at least lol wow seeing the prior post duplicate 21P vams eliminated is great, that many less to scour lol 21P is some coin.
Re: Is this dbl die, doubling or strike dbl
You were right, the "T" is hub doubling noted on the eliminated vam 7 so its on all of themDHalladay wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 1:45 pm

You can basically ignore the necklace dashes as being of any help pointing to a specific VAM. They are extremely common on 1921-P D1 reverse VAMs – much more of an odd curiosity from the die-making process, rather than anything close to being a helpful pickup point to help make an attribution.
What does your coin have in the way of scribbles in the recessed areas on either side of the eagle's right leg (viewer's left)? That's where identifying the VAM is going to happen.
