Big VAM Dinner turnout tonight

Post by messydesk » Sat Jan 07, 2023 4:39 am

Every FUN show features dinner at Delmonico's, a noisy Italian steak house. I think tonight was the biggest crowd we've had yet. About 25 people, some younger VAM-interested collectors, some collectors I'm meeting for the first time at FUN, and a few plus ones. This is what walking down one side of the table taking a panoramic picture looks like.

Saluti!

Wished I could have been there but there'd not be as much time as required to be able to meet, let alone get to better know, the lot!

Great picture. I am sure that as the beer and drinks were consumed the Vam stories began to pile on. The
Loud raucous of good Italian food never hurts either. Great way to meet old friends and new collectors.

Sure would like to attend- Just to far and uncomfortable with weather/airline issues
cant imagine getting stuck in strange city having to find
motel etc. Strange times

Fact is i have never met another vammer at a show, of which
i dont attend hardly at all any more. Just cant get motivated,
to comfortable at ranch away from people, as covid scares hell
outta me, as new variant supposobly very contagious

Got booster shot last week in a attempt to safety and use mask
when applicable This all sucks as everything is affected from
goods, services, food to financial mkts, all worldwide.

Can you imagine being in China, in some damm hallway
dying and loved ones having to simply watch you creamated
And China is pissed because U S is requiring covid free China
travelers. Screw you China

Here is my two cents since I was there. By FAR, the largest VAM Dinner I have ever attended. The group was so large, and the room cramped, that it made socializing and introductions awkward. Too many names for me to remember anyway. A lot of younger faces which was encouraging however. But that being said, a great time as usual.

I am the third from the right in the photo, not that you could pick me out of a crowd. Keep in mind that there are just as many folks sitting at the table at the bottom of the photo that you can't see.

"fogie" (Brent Fogelberg) is at the end of the table far right, looking powerful and in charge.
The fellow with his head bowed and 2 people to fogie's left is John Roberts.
When in doubt... don't.

Picture is blurry, but I do believe Alan is left of J.R., and John Coxe left of Alan.

And speaking of an infusion of youth into the hobby, this picture was from the Harry Bass sale.

I clearer picture would help, but I'm pretty sure I recognize JR, Alan and Fogie, off-hand.
As an experiment, see if you can ID Alan if I say "picture Mr. Wilson from Dennis the Menace in your mind"...
I go totally NUTS for WOW! VAMs!! Or is that from WOW! VAMs?

Squirrel, you did not specify which Mr. Wilson I look like. You must be too young to know that the original Mr. Wilson did not have a mustache. The first one had glasses, but the second one did not, only that tash. I have both. No wonder you can't VAM :D

From left, Andy Hansen, don't know, Michael Dustin, Colin something, don't know, Dave Miller, Lan (Dave's GF), John Coxe, Alan Scott, John Roberts, Russ James, Fogie. Included on the other side of the table are Dennis Dunn, Ash Harrison and his son, Ed Jerse, Chris Simpson, myself, and I can't remember who else.
