1923 VAM 1AE Extra Hair

Post by RogerRock » Fri Mar 25, 2022 11:23 pm

Does anyone have or know of this extra hair die break WITHOUT die crack across neck? The existence of an EDS is needed for corroboration of VAM 1AE2.

Roger , My 1923-P VAM 1AE MS 64 has the crack across the neck also shows double on Liberty's
neck (front) and profile (noise). I checked the REV and their is collar clash at R in DOLLAR . .. I will keep this coin
out and send to Dr. Close .

Tom - Glad you found some new attributes on the VAM 1AE to show Dr. Close. I am hoping that Dr. Close has an EDS VAM 1AE.

All of the VAM 1AEs that I have seen so far have the die break at neck point, Leroy mentioned this possibility when he gave the listing of VAM 1AE2. The other feature under consideration is the die gouge under GOD, of which I have included a photo. Has anyone seen this w/o the die break(s)?
I believe that I have an EDS VAM 1AE. but am still organizing my inventory.

David - Thanks for response and comments. My VAM 1AE2 was just returned from ANACS labeled as VAM 1AE Extra Hair and graded MS 62 # 5418952. This coin also exhibits die gouge under GOD.

Vampicker has called VAM 1AE2 "questionable listing" and wants to see break in the hair without crack/break at neck as a definitive stage. I believe, Leroy in great wisdom, attributed the VAM 1AE2 in order to leave room for yet another possible die stage.

Please let me know when a decision on the validity of VAM 1AE2 is reached.

I agree with John on this one. Prime example 1924 1A2!
